Animal Abuse - Malaysia's "Attraction"

Themere mention of animal abuse would make any animal lover’s breakfast churnwithin his stomach. Relating that to this country, breakfast would come out theway it went in. The fact is that the state of animal welfare in Malaysia isdisgusting – yes, D-I-S-G-U-S-T-I-N-G – and horrendously at that.

Whilethe thought of animal abuse conjures within the mind images of pitiful dogs andcats in wasted conditions, it doesn’t just stop at domesticated house pets.Animal abuse is poaching, illegal animal trafficking and all other heinouscrimes involving wildlife. It is, essentially, causing pain and/or discomfortto any one animal.

Thelaws of this land against such crime against animals are hopelessly pathetic.

Itis literally a joke.

Howmany times have we witnessed perpetrators of this offences given freedom toroam the streets after an insignificant and infinitesimal RM200 fine, only torepeat their criminal acts?

Itis equivalent to paying school fees…to the school of animal abuse…to learn howto better avoid detection & apprehension by authorities.

Justlike the infamous Anson Wong case.

Thoughhe wasn’t punished as absurdly as the RM200 fine mentioned (because he wascaught in the States), we meet Mr Anson again a couple o’ years down the roadin 2010 with the same crime of illegal animal trafficking upon his head.

Andguess what, he boasts “cooperation” with authorities…

Like,what???

So,technically if not exactly, in less than a decade he gets caught for stuffingendangered animals into a bag WITH the help of authorities again?

Ihave said enough.

Morerecently, an apology was deemed fit enough a punishment for an abuser of afeline family.

Yousee, the hype of the issue died down (not that it’s about the hype) in nationalnewspapers. Judging by the state of animal affairs here, the case was most ~~definitely~~probably chucked aside and the criminal got away – with a mere “sorry”.

Forlike what? Killing a family of kittens and rendering their mom helpless anddisdained?

Utterrubbish!

AndI can’t help but wonder how could the common Facebooker with presumably no“detective” abilities and facilities, manage to dig up a wealth of informationabout the crime, while our dear men-in-blue with far greater inspective capabilitiesmanage to find nothing at all. It’s either the “tidak apa” attitude or –nevermind, I rest my case.

Buthere, I want to address something else – our beloved animal affairs-relatedofficers.

Wehave witnessed over our newspapers of how “well” officers or staff of certain localcouncils carry out their animal-related duties in the most impeccably evil waypossible.

Strayand abandoned dogs that are meant to have a second go at life are brutally shotand slain at the hands of those who are supposed to try their level best to fitthem into a new, loving home.

Themost recent case is the one involving a home pet being DRAGGED (think jaggedtar road) and shot – all these in front of a kid.

Andanother one where a therapy dog for an old, widowed woman was shot and killed.She raised Spunk (the dog) as a puppy and now she’s left to live her remainingdays alone, without the companionship of her dog.

AsI understand, to date, no REAL action has been taken to improve the overallsituation; no REAL move has been made against these hypocritical councillors.

Asa developing nation, have we ever emulated or even considered following ourfirst world friends’ policies, laws and actions?

Evenif we are not bothered about these precious animals’ welfare, shouldn’t we takenote of experts’ findings that people who abuse animals tend to commit otherviolent crimes?

Idon’t see the point in the government’s religious policies if they couldn’teven be bothered to do justice for the animals, much less care for this weakerspecies, which God commands of us.

MahatmaGandhi once said “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can bejudged by the way its animals are treated.”

Isay the day Malaysia has REAL laws against animal abuse is the day she willgain more respect.

Just When I Thought It's Just Another Night...

I have the cutest (can't find another word for it) Dad ever! =D

Was charging my phone using mom's laptop (cuz the charger died) and expected to wait only 1.5hrs for it to finish charging (cuz that's the way it is - Celine Dion comes to mind XD), but it didn't.
So here I was, tired and willing the phone to charge faster.
Unsure of how long more it'll take to charge, I continued writing the piece I was writing for that 0.5hrs (1hr went to bathing & reading Asian Beacon), all the while checking to see if my phone has charged finish, thinking perhaps - just maybe - I missed the *bleep* that comes when the phone is fully charged... (talk about being disillusioned...I was just sitting right in front of the laptop! XP)
I finished writing (yes, that quick, cuz the "story" will continue some other day...you'll know what I mean in the near future... ; ) ) and my phone is STILL CHARGING..........
Gaaaahh!!! >_
All I wanted to do is phone charge finish, unplug from laptop, shut down laptop, pray and SLEEP! >_
I was so tired.......... @_@
(p.s.: note that though not mentioned, there was a "little voice" that was telling me, "Maybe you should pray first", once, while I was doing other things, but I didn't follow "little voice")
So I was bumming in front of the laptop (Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, etc. didn't appeal to me at that moment)
Then I heard "little voice" again: "Why don't you pray first, maybe your phone would have charged finish by then?"
So I did, and I couldn't stop praying cuz every time I thought I was done, I would suddenly remember another prayer item or another promise to pray for someone...
When I was finally done, I said "amen", waited out a couple o' seconds, and *bleep*!
I was like, whaaa???
I smiled.

I have been STPM-ing (another new term by mua XD), hence the hiatus...

Not that my STPM is over (I still have PA1 & Phy1) but after all that stress (ESPECIALLY with Maths!! My goodness, that can be a whole new blog post! @_@), i've decided to take a break and post this... = )

p.s.: if you see this (some-weird-how O_o), Pn Chew & Pn Sumathi, I'm really sorry... But don't worry, i'm still studying... =D

ANYWAY...back to where i was...

I've got a whole list of post-STPM activities planned out!

1) Compile my BK notes = )
I'm considering teaching BK for FREE! =D Just as Pn Julie taught me & co. for free and sponsored my books etc when i've got financial issues = ) [p.s.: thank you Pn Julie! =D ]

2) Go for a short (long also can XD) term mission(S XD) trip to anywhere! =D
Although this is subject to parental approval and the outcome of a certain circumstance... =S

3) Go out with Aileen, Alicia & Tien Mie! = )
There is one thing we must do: JAMMING! XD I so wanna whack the drums to release all that tension XD

4) 2 days, 2 events
A "yay!-we-are-free-from-STPM!" dinner just amongst us Upper Sixers of SMK Taman SEA 10/11 = )
and
Nostalgia 2011 which the juniors planned out for us = )
This calles for a song: *sings Auld Lang Syne, but stops when the walls crack and the glass breaks XD* =') ... I'm never gonna enter SMKTS as a student. Ever. =') 7 years education there. Its hard not to miss... the word "ever" is so hard to type... =') Thank you teachers! =D

So, as I was sayin', here's my entry.

I didn't win - as I told you - so I can put it up for reading (and comments - give me your hardest AND most sincere comments PLEASE)

Topic of the essay was "Teenagers Today".

Today’s teenagers have been generally labelled by most of the society as delinquents and good-for-nothings. There is a general perception that every 15-year-old Tom, Dick and Harry that they see on the street is a bummer and/or a nasty brat. However, behind all these insipid and common conclusions about teenagers of this time – as true as they may be (but, I believe, only to a certain extent) – they are actually a generation filled with immense potential.

Teenagers of the 21st century are more exposed to the world via the mounting impact the mass media has on today’s society. It is almost like they are being thrown into the real world at such a young age. While it can be argued that the media has induced a negative effect on the lives of youngsters, in the same way, the debate goes on in that it has made teenagers more knowledgeable – not merely in terms of studies, but in terms of general knowledge of the history of things and current issues as well.

Due to this, the younger generation of today has learnt to form views on the many issues that are affecting our society. And for all the enablement to read up on “both sides of the divide”, I believe that today’s teenagers do possess the ability to form opinions and perceptions that are mature and unbiased.

To couple that, teenagers nowadays are more daring than the teens of their parents’ time. While this may dawn a rebellious streak in them, there is this advantage: Put together, the youth of this age becomes a powerful tool of voice, and of reason. From the younger generation of yesterday who are repressed and silent, they have transformed to become more vocal in their opinions of the trending topics in the community, in the nation, and even, in the world. Take Ryan Hreljac for example. His establishment of Ryan’s Well Foundation has raised millions of dollars and is committed to bringing clean water and sanitation services to those impacted by the global water and sanitation crisis. Recognized by UNICEF as a Global Youth Leader, Hreljac is only 19 years old this year. And I strongly believe that this is just one of the many examples of youngsters out there who have the capacity to and have already put their lives to good use whether it is through big conducts or in small ways.

Moreover, teenagers are the next generation of decision-makers and the world’s future leaders. Therefore, with this “gift” that they have – that I feel that no other teen generation before them has ever had – and the visions that they have for this world, they are going to grow up becoming people who desire to make a change in every way possible, be it through voting rights or founding of charitable organizations or social and corporate responsibility. These young chaps are going to be ones who will vote for the right parliamentarians, the ones who will stand up for the oppressed. Because they have seen and understood what is going on in the world, they have taken their justified stands and they have the courage to step up and speak out for the right things even in the face of opposition.

A young man of today that could be the equivalent of William Wilberforce is now-28-year-old Craig Kielburger. At a tender age of 12, he read the story of 10-year-old Iqbal Masih who spoke up for children’s rights but was murdered by his past owners for advocating and defending these values. Young Kielburger was inspired and gathered 7 classmates from his school. From there, Free The Children was born. Today, Free The Children is the world’s largest network of children helping children through education with more than a million youth involved in their initiatives and programs. On top of that, 59.63% of their funding is sourced from the young people and Kielburger himself is still wholly rooted in the organization he founded almost 16 years ago.

Question is: Would this have come about if his parents had not supported him? Anyone with even an ounce of logic would pass off little Craig’s idea as naivety, especially for his age at that time. However, his friends believed in his dream and so did his parents, and the rest, as they say, is history. In that, teenagers these days are risk-takers. Parental concern is understandable, but if Mr. and Mrs. Kielburger were to douse the flames of compassion in the heart of their son, there would not be a Free The Children. If Mr. and Mrs. Hreljac were to ignore the vision and passion of young Ryan, would there be a Ryan’s Well Foundation?

Hence, I feel that parents of teenagers should not shove aside the dreams and hopes of their kids. Instead, it should be continually matured, guided and supported. In that way, the youngsters won’t feel like their ideas and even they are being thrown into “cold storage”, which is what teens nowadays tend to feel – and very easily at that. Another perspective of this is in the talents of teenagers. The universal perception is that teenagers should be taught and disciplined to follow a professional career, thus, development of skills and talents other than academics is secondary and the pursuing of a Degree in Performing Arts is considered a heinous crime. But the society has forgotten: If all our teenagers are to grow up becoming professionals, why then did the elders’ time give rise to Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe?

By stating that, I wish to stand on a point that we need to give these young fellows a chance to venture into something (adults consider) extraordinary. Teenagers today are so pressed down by studies that they know nothing but their books – and I mean school textbooks. They have less junctures in which they can have a say because nobody wants to believe in them. How else are we to raise the next Beethoven, the future Leonardo da Vinci, the coming Bill Gates or the prospective Abraham Lincoln, if we do not give them a platform to stand and a microphone to speak?

Like it or loathe it, today’s teenagers will be holding dominance in the future. And if we suppress them and do not give them time, space and guidance, to grow up, the world is not going to be a pretty sight in time to come as a result of the restrains and constrains they faced as teens, causing them to back away from their future responsibilities and their visions. Teenagers today wield the power to affect change – change the elders of today long to see. What the older generation ought to do is not to put them down but, instead, empower them with their expertise and experience, and then let them off with a prayer. As Franklin D. Roosevelt has aptly put, “We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future.”

Conviction, Repentance, Forgiveness - The Abounding Grace of God

"Highlight" of Daniel 4:
After interpreting the dream of King Nebuchadnezzar, Daniel said that if he repented, what was decreed by the Lord against him may not come to past.
But the king did not repent, and continued to walk in his own pride.
Eventually, what was prophecied against him came to past.
King Nebuchadnezzar repented, and his kingdom was restored to him.

God convicts us and tells us where we have gone wrong and/or where we will go wrong, and warns us that is we do not repent, we will bring harm to ourselves.
But the Good Lord is gracious, compassionate & merciful, to allow us another chance to repent and turn back to Him.

When God convicts us, don't be stubborn, don't be prideful, humble yourself & repent. Then, you won't harm yourself.
Like the people of Nineveh, for example: (Jonah 3:10)
Jonah prophecied against them because of their wickedness, they repented & returened to God, and God showed them mercy.

On the contrary, if we refuse to repent and give up our sinful ways, and allow God to just come in, to just do a work, change our hearts & fill our hearts, we will destroy ourselves completely.
Pharoah of Eygpt for example refused to repent & obey God time and again, resulting, ultimately, in the death of His firstborn.
Yet he remained unrepentant. He pursued the Israelites, then eventually, causing his own death and that of his men. (Exodus 7:8 - 14)

Therefore, repent and return to God before it is too late. (Psalm 32:6 ; Isaiah 55:6-7)
For He he gracious compassionate & merciful to forgive. (1 John 1:9 ; Ephesians 1:17 ; Joel 2:13)
He does all things for our good.
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him..." - Romans 8:28

Ok. So I had a MUET holiday assignment on Academic Qualifications = Successful Career...
Thought I'd do it quick and hand it in quick (I had to email it to teacher before the holidays disappear)...but...it never happened... (Hmm...procrastination perhaps...?)
And so, we come to the last Wednesday of the Raya holidays...and CRAPP!!! MY ESSAY!!! (In case you're wondering, I'm gonna be outstation on Thurs & Fri so yes...CRAPP!!!)
And I went for a marathon essay writing and ta-da! this post will be a showcasing of the product...

In the fast-paced world we live in, education is indeed a factor in determining our success in career and perhaps, also, in life. One can see that most job vacancy advertisements pose a minimum requirement of at least one degree in a related field. As can be seen, even academic qualifications are placed before a person’s character, values, skills and talents. Therefore, there is a question of whether or not that fancy-looking piece of paper is really worth the value placed upon it by the society and the corporate world.

Academic qualifications are certainly needed to, for starters, land ourselves a decent job because it is proof that we have studied and learnt the theory behind our job, hence, making us capable of fulfilling what is required of us by our employers. Knowledge is needed before doing anything. For example, one needs to know how to fix electrical stuffs before he or she can be an electrician or one needs to have studied and know the laws that govern the country inside out before he or she can be a lawyer. So, academic credentials really are needed to kick-start a journey in the working world which would lead to a successful career.

However, the emphasis placed on academic prerequisites for a successful career is too much. Take Ancient Rome for example. The Romans had beautiful roads and amazing architecture. Did they sit in a classroom or lecture hall to learn how to build all these things? No. The Romans would determine their interest – for example, building roads – find someone who builds roads and just watch and learn from them. At the same time, the “teacher” would, somehow, seep in some values and talk of patriotism. So while catching the skills of what they’re interested in, they also pick up good values. Their education system is all practical, barely any theory. The theory part leeches in when the practical part is being taught and they never studied to earn a night in graduation garb. And that is what’s missing in education these days which makes academic qualifications not as important as emphasised by the society and corporate world at large. Head knowledge is nothing if there is no skill and no talent, especially when it comes to the arts. In my opinion, one doesn’t need a degree or even an SPM certificate to be able to become a legend in the field of acting, music or writing. It is all talent and skill. If you are gifted in it, you will make it, regardless of whether or not you have the academic credentials for it. Take Sandra Bullock for example. This famous actress never completed her education in East Carolina University where she majored in drama. Even famous entrepreneurs and billionaires like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs never concluded their tertiary education. So, in the pursuit of a successful career, skills and talents do play a role that is a tad bit more important than academic qualifications.

Interest counts as well. If you had slogged your way into a course you have absolutely no interest in and on the day of your convocation still maintain 0% interest in that degree you just obtained from the Dean, when you go out into the working sphere related to that qualification, you’re just going to feel miserable. When faced with all the politicking and back-stabbing of the corporate world, things become worse, you will feel even more demotivated in your job. Because, in the first place, you don’t have the interest and the heart for the kind of work, environment and people that your academic qualifications offer. Your heart and mind is somewhere else, where your dream job is. This will cause you to feel laid-back and you won’t have the drive and motivation to climb the corporate ladder and to constantly improve yourself and strive to be better than your peers and colleagues. These are things that can help us to build a successful career but because we don’t have these things, we falter and just let ourselves go through the motions of work until retirement day. Therefore, interest does play a role in the journey to a successful career because it motivates us to better ourselves.

Academic qualifications isn’t the only thing that matters, neither is skills and talents, nor is interest. In my opinion, they certainly aren’t the most important factors. It may land you a job but if you’re lazy and irresponsible, you will be sacked. Then, when you get a new job, and you’re still lazy and irresponsible, you will be dismissed again and so, begins the cycle of getting a job and losing the job. Character and values are very important. In fact, they are the most important factors for a successful career. Good character and values will bring one far. You have to be committed and responsible in carrying out your duties, trustworthiness and integrity are important when it comes to money and patience, endurance and a good measure of emotional quotient is needed to handle tough people, such as people who play politics in the workplace. In life and on the way up the corporate ladder, there will be failures and disappointments and it is perseverance and determination that will keep one going, just like Thomas Alva Edison who engraved his name on History and Science books by persevering through 10000 failed attempts. People with a great character and good set of values are respected, admired and adored, and that, can bring them a long way. Thus, it can be seen and concluded that character and values are truly essential to a successful career.

The equation Academic Qualifications = Successful Career is not accurate in many ways. Many other factors such as character, values, interest, talents and skills, as mentioned above, play a more important role in determining the path of a person’s career. Altogether, they take up majority of the percentage requirements for a fruitful career. It is when we put our academic credentials together with a good set of character and values, a bountiful and eager interest and phenomenal talent and skills that we can be on our way to building a successful career.

A Take At Driving Test Attempt #3

So 12th May 2010 was the 3rd attempt for my driving license...
Wait.
Before that, let's do a recap...

Attampt #1:
Examiner: Lady.
What happened: ALMOST ram (not the sheep with a pair of curly horns... =O -_-") into a sign post...
Conclusion: Ok.So this would be my fault. Fine. I rest my case... (p.s.: I applied the brakes first ok...)

Attempt #2:
Examiner: Guy. (Thank God! =P)
What happened: The guy said I went off my lane... But I DISTINCTLY REMEMBER being IN MY OWN lane...
Conclusion: ... *open mouth* ... *open mouth* ... I shall NOT comment on this...

And...
Attempt #3:
Examiner: Guy. (Thank God again! =P again. Hehe...)
What happened: ...
Ok. I shall cut it at that 'cause that's what this post is for...in the first place...duhh... -_-"
Anyway.

Some of you may know that I resolved to pay for all the extras (calculation as highlighted) 'cause my family was like: "If only you 'pay' then can pass already! Spend less $$$! Now end up have to spend more $$$! ... ... ... etc etc etc..."
So I was like: Ok. Fine. Forget it. I WILL PAY FOR ALL THE EXTRA EXPENSES. Whatever man... Then you can't say anything 'cause its like my own hard-earned $$$ (my hard-earned salary from Pok Brothers Sdn Bhd...will post about it later...MAYBE... =P)...duhh...
(Calculation: 1xRenew L + 2xRe-take Fees + 1xExtra Lesson = RM40 + RM150 + RM150 + RM36 = RM376. GASP! I HAVE TO WORK FOUR. 4. FREAKING DAYS TO GET THAT MUCH $$$!!! ALMOST A WEEK!!! Ok...relax...chill...phew... ... ... ... FOUR DAYS!!! =P)
So yes...on the 3rd attempt, I was like: Ok. This is gonna be my last attempt 'cause I don't have the $$$ for it. I AM desperate for my license...but I won't do anything stupid to get it. So...yes. THIS WILL BE MY 3RD & FINAL ATTEMPT...

At the beginning of 2009, I thought, ‘this is gonna be a good year with the Lord!’ Little did I know that its gonna be one of the craziest most roller coastery year of my life.

The year started off good. Everything was ‘in its place’ so to say. I had many things in line for me to do for the Lord. I was excited.
Then, one day, God told me, “You’re relying on people too much, I want you to rely on Me.” So, being quite obedient at that time, I did exactly that and I happily kept my problems to myself. I did share a little with others, but beyond that the answer to “what’s up” is for God alone to know.

After that, life felt just fine for a short period of time until one day, everything seemed to resurface suddenly. All my troubles and worries seemed to have forced its way back into my life.
I grew tired and weary. The challenges in my life seemed to have multiplied and grown stronger like mutated virus. I became so stressed until one fine day I couldn’t hold things up any longer and my spiritual life made a sharp descend on the roller coaster that would take up much of my life this year.

It was an unbalanced roller coaster. The downs were more than the ups, the ups were less steep and still quite near the ground, the downs made up tracks on the ground and there were corkscrews at a number of areas were I would just want to throw up after that.
And being a leader did not make things better any bit. The fact that my spiritual life sat on a roller coaster during my leadership period is something that I will never be proud of.

There came a time where things became more overwhelming and I would become moody at one moment but over hyper at another moment. Many times, I would just lie on my bed, crying, and wondering what on earth was going on with me.
People would ask me, “How are you,” and I would just say, “Ok la.” And I would put a happy face especially in front of the young ones so that they would not be discouraged and thought that it is the least I could do as a leader that had failed them. Nobody knew what was going on inside and at that time, I thought, ‘not even God knows.’
I began to ponder on the things that brought me up and I thought that if even these stuff can’t bring me up, what can. Perhaps, I am a total loss.
I felt like I was just going with the flow. I helped a few with their problems but none of mine was solved. I did some stuff for God because it made me happier – and I really needed happy moments.

With all that, I went to Youth Camp, not expecting anything at all. God’s presence was just so awesome and overwhelming that for the first time in a very long time, I felt Him nearby, along with the true & everlasting peace that that comes with His glorious presence. I could just sit there and rest in His presence and it was truly an “and the things of the earth will go strangely dim” experience.
He gave me a revelation of how I dealt with my problems and told me that I never truly trusted Him, but was merely burying everything and giving myself the notion that all is well, but really I was dying inside.
He told me that when He said, “I want you to rely on Me,” what He really meant was for me to share with Him everything first, make His counsel my priority and not bury my problems but hand it all over to a loving Father who cares enough to know the number of hairs on my head.
I thought, oh…I misunderstood…

But I thank God I misunderstood. Because had I not misunderstood, my problems would most probably still be buried and not handed over to Jesus.
I thank God that although I put my spiritual life on a roller coaster as a leader, did not trust Him, and disappointed Him in so many other ways, He is still merciful, gracious and loving to forgive me.
I thank God that even when I myself don’t realise what’s going on deep down inside of me, God knew how I was dying inside. He saw the brokenness and confusion and alongside it, a rebellious person, but chose to forgive, heal and lift up. I learnt that it is He who should hold things up and not me, and that He will hold things up and together.
I thank God that He didn’t view me as a total loss, instead, even when I ran away, He chased after me and encouraged me and gave me a new life and a new hope.

Truly, God is good all the time.

Jesus went to Capernaum, a town in Galilee where he taught on the Sabbath. The people were amazed at the way he taught because he spoke with authority. There was a man who had the spirit of an evil demon in him. He screamed out in a loud voice, "Ah! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Are you here to destroy us? I know who you are: You are God's holy messenger!"
Jesus ordered the spirit, "Be quiet and come out of the man!"
The demon threw the man down in front of them and came out of him without doing him any harm.
The people were amazed and said to one another, "What kind of words are these? With authority and power he gives orders to evil spirits and they come out!" The report about Jesus spread everywhere in that region.

Luke 6:6-11
On another Sabbath, Jesus went to teach in a synagogue. There was a man whose right hand was crippled. Some Pharisees and some teachers of the Law wanted a reason to accuse Jesus of doing wrong, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal on a Sabbath.
Jesus knew their thoughts and said to the man, "Stand up and come here to the front." The man got up and stood there.
Jesus asked them, "What does our Law allow us to do on the Sabbath? To help or to harm? To save a man's life or to destroy it?" He looked around at them all and then turned to the man, "Stretch out your hand."
The man did so and his hand was healed.
They were filled with rage and began to discuss among themselves what they could do to Jesus.

Luke 13:10-17
On another Sabbath, Jesus was teaching in a synagougue. There was a woman who had an evil spirit in her that has kept her sick for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. When Jesus saw her, he called out to her, "Woman, you are free from your sickness!" He placed his hands on her back, at once she straighten up and began to praise God.
The official of the synagougue was angry that Jesus had healed on a Sabbath, so he spoke up, "There are six days in which we should work. So come during those days to be healed and not during the Sabbath!"
Jesus said, "You hypocrites! Any of you would untie his ox or his donkey and take it out and give it water on a Sabbath. Here is a descendant of Abraham whom Satan has kept in bonds for eighteen years! Should she not be set free on a Sabbath?"
Jesus' answer made his enemies ashamed of themselves. The people rejoiced over the wonderful things Jesus did.

On a Sabbath, Jesus went to have a meal at the home of one of the leading Pharisees and people were watching him closely. A man whose arms and legs were swollen came to Jesus.
Jesus spoke up and asked them, "Does our Law allow healing on the Sabbath or not?"
But they could not answer him.
He turned to the man, healed him, and sent him off. He said to them, "If any of you has a son or an ox that happened to fall into a well during a Sabbath, would you not pull him out on that very Sabbath?"
But they would not answer him.

Jesus Is Presented in the Temple (Luke 2:21-40)

A week later, the time came for the baby to be circumcised, and they named him Jesus, the name the angel gave him before he was conceived. The time came for Joseph and Mary to perform the ceremony of purification. They brought Jesus along to be presented to the Lord, as it is written in the Law of Moses: “Every first-born male is to be dedicated to the Lord.” They also brought offerings of a pair of doves or two pigeons as required by the Law of Moses.
At that time, there was a man named Simeon who lived in Jerusalem. He was a good, God-fearing man and was waiting for Israel to be saved. The Holy Spirit was with him and he was told that he would not die until he see the Lord’s promised Messiah. Led by the Spirit, he went into the Temple. When they went into the Temple, Simeon took the baby in his arms and gave thanks to God. The parents were amazed at what he said about him. Simeon told Mary, “This child is chosen by God for the destruction and salvation of many. He is a sign from God that many will speak against, and so reveal their secret thoughts. And sorrow, like a sharp sword, will break your heart.”
There was a very old prophetess named Anna, daughter of Phanuel from the tribe of Asher, a widow. She was only married for seven years and is 84 years old. She never left the Temple; day and night she worshipped God, fasting and praying. When she arrived, she also gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to everyone who was waiting for Jerusalem to be set free.

There were some shepherds in that part of the country. They were spending the night in the fields, taking care of their flocks. An angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of God shone upon them. They were terribly afraid. But the angel said, “Don’t be afraid! I bring you good news that will surely bring joy to all the people. Today in David’s town, your Saviour is born – Christ the Lord. This is what will prove it to you; you will find him wrapped in cloths, lying in a manger.” Suddenly, a great army of heaven’s angels appeared and began praising God, “Glory to God in the highest heavens and peace on earth to those with whom he is pleased with!” When the angels left them and returned to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go into the town and see for ourselves all these things that the Lord has told us.” They hurried off into the town and found Mary and Joseph and the baby. They told them all that the angel has said to them. All who heard of it were amazed. Mary kept all these things in her heart. At that time Emperor Augustus ordered a census to be taken throughout the Roman Empire. When the first census was taken, Quirinius was governor of Syria. Everyone went to his own hometown to register. Joseph went from Nazareth a town in Galilee to Bethlehem a town in Judea, the birthplace of King David, because he was a descendant of David. Joseph went to register with Mary who was promised in marriage to him. While they were in Bethlehem, the time came for Mary to have her baby. Mary gave birth to her first son, wrapped him in clothes and laid him in a manger – there was no room for them in the inn.

The Birth of John the Baptist (Luke 1:39-56)

The time came for Elizabeth to have her baby. All her neighbours and relatives who heard of how good God has been to her rejoiced with her. When the baby was a week old, they came to circumcise him. They were about to name him Zechariah after his father but Elizabeth said, “No. His name is to be John.” They said, “But you don’t have a relative with that name.” So they made signs to the boy’s father with their hands, asking him what name he would like his son to have. Zechariah asked for a writing pad and wrote “His name is John.” How surprised they all were! At that moment, Zechariah was able to speak and he began praising God. News about this spread throughout the region and all who heard of it were filled with fear and thought about it and asked, “What would this child grow up to be?” For it was plain that God’s power was upon him. Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking God’s message. John developed in body and spirit. He lived in the desert until the time he appeared publicly to the people of Israel.

Mary Visits Elizabeth (Luke 1:39-56)

Soon afterwards, Mary got ready and hurried off to a hill country in Judea. She went to Zechariah's house. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby within her moved. Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and said in a loud voice, "You are the most blessed of all women, and blessed is the child that you will bear! Why should this great thing happen to me? That my Lord's mother comes to visit me. For as soon as I heard your greeting, the baby within me junped with gladness! How happy are you to believe that God's message to you will come true!"
Mary said,

"My heart praises the Lord;

my soul is glad because of God my Saviour,

for he has remembered me his lowly servant.

From now on,

all people will call me happy,

because of the great things the Mighty God has done for me.

His name is holy; from one generation to another,

he shows mercy to those who honour him.

He has stretched out his mighty arm,

and scattered the proud with all their plans.

He has brought down mighty kings from their thrones,

and lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things,

and sent away the rich with empty hands.

He has kept the promise he made to our ancestors,

and has come to he help of his servant Israel.

He has remembered to show mercy to Abraham,

Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then went back home.

It is said that she cannot have children but she herself is now six months pregnant. For there is nothing God cannot do.'

When Herod was King of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah, who was from the priestly order of Abijah. His wife, Elizabeth was also from a priestly family. They both lived good lives and obeyed fully all the Lord's laws and commands. They had no children because Elizabeth could not have any, and they were both very old.
One day, Zechariah was doing his work as priest in the Temple, taking his turn in the daily service. According to the customs followed by the priests, he was chosen by lot to burn incense on the altar. He went into the Temple, while the crowd of people outside prayed during the hour the incense was burned. An angel appeared to Zechariah, standing at the right side of the altar where the incense was burnt. Zechariah was alarmed and felt afraid. The angel said, 'Don't be afraid Zechariah! God has heard your prayer and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son and you will name him John. How happy you will be and how happy many others will be when he is born! He will be a great man in God's sight. He must not drink any wine or strong drink. From his birth, he will be filled with the Holy Spirit and he will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. He will go ahead of the Lord, strong and mighty like the prophet Elijah. He will bring fathers and children together again. He will turn disobedient people back to the way of thinking of the righteous. He will get the Lord's people ready for him.'
Zechariah said, 'How shall I know is this is so. I am old and my wife is old also.'
'I am Gabriel,' the angel said, 'I stand here in the presence of God who sent me to speak to you and tell you this good news. But you have not believed my message which will come true in the right time. Because you have not believed, you will be unable to speak. You will remain silent until the day my promise to you comes true.'
In the meantime, the people were waiting for him, and wondering why he was spending such a long time in the Temple. When he came out, he could not speak to them, and they knew he had seen a vision. Unable to speak, he made signs to them with his hands.
After his period of service in the Temple was over, Zechariah went back home. Some time later, Elizabeth became pregnant and did not leave the house for five months. 'Now at last the Lord has helped me,' she said, 'he has taken away my public disgrace.'

Watched till 4:30A.M on Monday (would actually be Tuesday). Wanted to continue but DVD player protest so we finished it yesterday.

In Lystra, there was a lame man who had been lame from birth and had never been able to walk all his life. As Paul spoke, he sat there and listened.
Paul saw that he believed and could be healed. So, he looked straight at the man and said in a loud voice, "Stand up straight on your feet!"
At once, the man jumped up and started walking around.
The people of Lystra who saw what happened started in their own Lycaonian language, "The gods have become like men and come down to us!"
They gave Barnabas the name Zeus, and Paul the name Hermes because he was the chief speaker.
The priest of the god Zeus, whose temple stood just outside the town, brought bulls and flowers, for the crowds wanted to offer a sacrifice to the apostles.
When the apostles heard what they were about to do, they tore their clothes and ran into the middle of the crowd, shouting, "Why are you doing this? We are only men like you! We have come to preach the Good News, to turn you away from these worthless things to the living God! In the past he has allowed all men to go their own way. But he has always given evidence of his existence by the good things he does: he gives you rain from heaven and crops at the right time; he gives you food and fills your heart with happiness."
Even with these words, they could not stop the crowds from offering a sacrifice to them.
Some Jews from Antioch of Pisidia came and won the crowds over to their side.
They stoned Paul and dragged him out of town and left him, thinking he was dead.
But when the believers gathered around Paul, he got up and went into the town.

CF Camp 2009: Extravagant

God's love is truly extravagant.
God's grace is truly extravagant.
His mercies are new everyday.

Extravagant = beyond what is reasonable.

Speaker (supposedly undisclosable) was really awesome!
Had a real lot of stamina & energy for a lady of her age.

Something slightly different.

When Pastor Timothy came up the pulpit joining Pastor Steven, instead of the usual prayer, "you may be seated" then sermon, we sang "Sing Hallelujah to the Lord".

Had a vision when we sang "Sing Hallelujah to the Lord".
Saw the cross at the edge of a plateau. Multitudes were crowding around the cross. There were people walking towards the cross. Everyone was kneeling down, crying out to God and worshipping Him. Jesus was there. He was walking all over the plateau, touching every single life present and coming.
I saw myself. I was covered in blood stains. My face, my hands, my clothes were "bloody"...
Jesus came and placed His hands on me. Instantly. I looked like I just had a bath. All nice & clean.

I really don't know how to put it into words la really...
My spiritual life hit the bottoms, the "deepest depths of the sea" that week...
Really...I just don't know what to say.

But one thing I know: GOD IS LOVE.
And truly His loving grace is just extravagant - beyond what is reasonable.

I tell you, as the head of the event, managing it was phew...ask someone else who knows...haha...
BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT
There's always a "but" when circumstances seem bleak but God is in the picture.

Things might not have gone as Chow Xin & I have planned out.
But God is sovereign!
And Easter is all about God!
I'm sure everything went as God willed it to be!

Cannot tell how many people were saved 'cause cannot make calls for salvation...
But I'm gonna believe that God moved!

Down to personal (I went for night II):
Ending of Part I of the musical, whereby "Jesus" had died and was hanging on the cross and Pastor Steven & his worship team came up singing "Once Again" while walking slowly and looking toward the cross...t'was truly meaningful!
It's really a time to once again look upon the cross where Jesus died for me to set me free from eternal death & damnation, free from sin, satan & death...

The whole musical was really awesome & fantastic!
Thank you to all who participated! Thank God for all who participated!
But more importantly: Praise God for working!!!

God is indeed, truly good!
And NOTHING can stand in His way!

He is the Son of God.
He was born with a bleak destiny, a daunting mission - to die.
Not just die. But to die so that we may live.
He died so that we won't have to suffer for eternity in damnation.
He died just so we can be set free from slavery to sin, satan & eternal death & condemnation.

You ask: "Why?"
My answer to you is: "Love."

We never deserved His work on the cross.
We were not worthy that He should put aside all His riches and glory in heaven, give up His relationship with His Dad, be mocked, insulted, spat at, flogged, striped bare and nailed to the cross and be rejected not only by men but also by the Father Himself!
Out of His extravagant - beyond what is reasonable - grace, love & mercy, He sacrificed Himself to save us from the lake of fire, to give us hope.

This is our God.
This is Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God.

Currently very tired and stressed over lots of stuff...
But I thank God that His "...grace is sufficient for you (me)..." (2 Corinthians 12:9)

It is because of God that I am still sustaining till this moment.
If it weren't for Him, I would most probably be rotting in hell cuz I suicided or something...haha! =P

It is the Lord who sustained me, who gave me strength, who just...filled my life and encouraged me simply by being there.

He'll always be there and He'll always know and understand.

Thank you so very much, Lord!

Many weeks ago, I was late for school...
Cuz got super massive traffic jam...
It was Monday...which means assembly...
...how great...

Left the house at 6.3o a.m....reached school about 8:00 a.m....
Sigh...have to stand in the middle...

I don't mind being punished...really...
But as a Christian, a leader of CF...standing out there, really is an extremely bad testimony...
In front of the younger ones is a "worse-still scenario"...
I really wasn't the exemplary leader that I should be; not the ambassador of Christ that I should be...
I think I really dissapointed many people...
(...sorry everyone...)

But there's always stuff to thank God for in every bad situation...
And what I want to thank God for is that I wasn't "super punished" or something...just gotta write a letter...
Although I now have a discipline form in my file...its covered by my mom's letter so ya...it's cool...i hope...

Praise God in everything!

1 or 2 week(s) after CNY, there were lots of mandarin oranges left...
So my mom made mandarin orange juice...
I drank one cup for 2 days.
The 3rd day, I puked...on the way to school...
And I fell a little sick after that...
...now...currently falling sick, getting better, falling sick, better, fall sick, getting better, sick etc....

Anyhow, just wanna thank God that I have friends who cared and for preserving me from stuff like hospital, ICU, death etc.... =P
